Join award-winning artist Andy Dolphin for one, or both, half-day workshops covering the skills of sketching en plein air, Sunday 14 January 2024. 

Start with the morning beginner workshop, 9:30am to 12:30pm, then take your sketches to the next level with the afternoon intermediate workshop, 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

Sunday 14 January 9:30am - 12:30pm

Drawing is the foundation of visual art and it can be easier than you think. Join award-winning artist Andy Dolphin for this half-day workshop covering the basics of sketching on location. Topics covered include simplifying the landscape, handling perspective and finding successful compositions through tonal thumbnails. 


Outdoor Drawing Workshop 2 - intermediate

Sunday 14 January 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Take your sketches to the next level in this half-day workshop with award-winning artist Andy Dolphin, covering the basics of sketching en plein air. Topics covered include visualising the composition, handling perspective and shading. Andy will also introduce students to a simple sketching method he calls Mindful Contour Drawing which he uses for urban sketching or to produce preliminary drawings for watercolour painting.


$85 per workshop - Includes all workshop materials and morning/afternoon tea. You are also welcome to bring your own additional material and supplies.

The workshops will be held onsite at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, please wear suitable footwear, and bring a hat and jacket.

No previous experience is required, and these workshops are suitable for ages 15 years +.
